JAKARTA, THENUSANTARAPOST.COM– The government is targeting 15,000 Kopdes Merah Putih (Village Cooperatives) to be fully operational starting August 2025. This initiative is part of a major push to activate 80,000 village cooperatives across Indonesia by November.
Deputy for Trade and Food Distribution Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Tatang Yuliono, explained that the government has prepared an acceleration roadmap.
“We are pushing for 15,000 Kopdes Merah Putih to operate in August, 25,000 in September, another 25,000 in October, and 15,000 in November,” Tatang said at the National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) on Cooperatives and MSMEs in Jakarta, as quoted by TheNusantaraPost.com from Antara, Thursday (21/8/2025).
Mandatory Digital System
To ensure efficient operations, each cooperative will be required to use the Digi Koperasi system developed by PT Telkom. Through this digital platform, all cooperative activities can be monitored in real time—from goods flow and sales to financial reports.
“Cooperatives only need to input their data, and the system takes care of the rest. Everything will be digitally controlled,” Tatang explained.
Divided into 4 Regions
To speed up the rollout, the government has divided the task into four regions, each led by a deputy minister. The operational targets for August are:
-
Region 1 (Yogyakarta & Central Java): 2,680 KDMP
-
Region 2 (Riau Islands, North Sumatra, Aceh, West Java, Lampung, South Sumatra): 5,800 KDMP
-
Region 3 (Jakarta, Banten, South Sulawesi): 2,244 KDMP
-
Region 4 (East Java & Bali): 5,412 KDMP
Each cooperative must meet minimum requirements: having at least one outlet, a business unit, and a verified location.
Papua as a Challenge
Tatang admitted that there are still challenges in several regions, particularly Papua. However, he stressed that the government is optimistic that all Kopdes Merah Putih Task Forces will be formed this month.
“Papua does require special attention due to certain obstacles. But we are optimistic that by August, all districts and provinces will have their Satgas (task forces),” he said.
With this ambitious target, the government hopes that Kopdes Merah Putih will become a driving force for rural economic growth while strengthening food security and national distribution (Ant/TNP).
