BALI, THE NUSANTARA POST – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) said that Indonesia controls around 40 percent or US$77 billion of the total value of digital economic transactions in Southeast Asia based on the e-Conomy South East Asia report in 2022.
“The actual value of digital economic transactions has grown 22 percent compared to the previous year,” said OJK Chief Executive for Insurance, Underwriting and Pension Fund Supervision Ogi Prastomiyono in Nusa Dua, Bali, Thursday.
According to him, this achievement has made Indonesia a significant digital economy player in the ASEAN region.
One of the factors supporting the growth of the digital economy in the country, he continued, is the proliferation of financial technology companies (fintech) that are capable of creating efficiencies and easily accessible financial services.
OJK noted that as of January 2023, there are 102 fintech companies that bring borrowers and lenders together or licensed peer to peer lending (P2P). These P2P lending companies make the loan process easier, especially for debtors who have limited access to traditional banking services. “With innovative information and technology, loan disbursement can be done quickly and easily,” he said.
Apart from P2P Lending, he continued, there were also 97 Digital Financial Innovations (IKD) until January 2023 registered at the OJK and classified into 15 business models including one of which was innovative credit assessment (ICS).
ICS is one of the added values in the credit disbursement process, especially loans that are disbursed quickly and with simple conditions, one of which is the buy now pay later or Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) scheme.
OJK encourages a combination of conventional credit rating agencies and ICS because it will provide better credit quality while expanding the scope of financing realization, especially for those who have not had access to banking.
So far, the assessment of conventional credit institutions includes indicators of history or history of loan payments and unpaid debts. Meanwhile, ICS utilizes big data or Big Data covering up to 15 variables including activities on social media to transactions in online stalls (e-commerce). .
The existence of ICS will be a breakthrough for MSME actors who want to access credit, do not yet have strong access to a bank but are already engaged in e-commerce.
“We believe that 2023 with normal growth conditions, Indonesia’s economy will grow well, in 2022 it will grow 5.31 percent and this year during the global crisis, inflation is still there, the world’s central bank interest rate has increased, geopolitics is not over, but Indonesia remains stable and growing. ,” he concluded (Ant/TNP)
